Habitat
An annual erect herb 15-40cm high, hairy. Flowers in summer. On slopes, roadside, and canal edges.
Preparation
Use whole herb or roots. Collect in summer and autumn, use fresh or dry under sun.
Properties
Bitter tasting; neutral, toxic. Anti-inflammatory, parasiticide, anti-pruritic.

- 肺炎，肺脓伤，脓胸Pneumonitis, lung abscess, pulmonary empyema
- 口腔糜烂，咽喉痛Buccal ulcer, sore throat
- 腹泻，痢疾Diarrhea, dysentery
- 睾丸炎Orchitis, boils and pyodermas
外用治皮肤瘙痒。每用5钱至1两，水煎服。外用适量捣敷，或煎水外洗患处。External use in pruritus, ringworm infection. Use 15-30gm. Prepare as decoction, or macerate fresh herbs to use as poultice.
Prescriptions
- Pneumonitis, lung abscess, empyema: Fresh herb 60gm. Brew in water and take with honey. Or macerate fresh herb 60-120gm, extract juice and take with honey.
- Buccal ulcer: Fresh leaves of Heliotropium indicum, macerate and extract juice to be used as mouthwash 4-6 times daily.
