Habitat
A shrub or small tree 4-5m high. Flowers in summer. On hills, damp and sandy soil, and river banks. Mostly cultivated in gardens.
Preparation
Use young twigs and leaves. Collect in May-June, cut into segment and dry.
Properties
Sweet tasting; neutral. Diaphoretic, anti-inflammatory, diuretic.

- 麻疹不透Incomplete eruption of measles rash
- 感冒Colds
- 慢性气管炎Chronic bronchitis
- 风湿关节痛Rheumatic arthralgia
- 小便不利Dysuria
外用治风疹搔痒。每用3至5钱,水煎服;外用适量,煎水洗。麻疹已透及体虚汗多者忌服。External use in urticaria, pruritus. Use 10-15gm. Prepare as decoction. Also boil in water for washing. Contraindicated in weakness and individuals with excessive sweating.
Prescriptions
- Prevention of measles: Tamarix chinensis 1.5gm for each year of age. Boil in water and add brown sugar. Take for 3 days.
- Incomplete measle eruption: Tamarix chinensis, 10-15gm. Add a small amount of brown sugar, brew in water and take as tea drink. Also boil in water for washing.
