Habitat
An erect shrub 1-3m high. Flowers from March to April. Mostly cultivated. Also grows in the wild.
Preparation
Use stem. Collect all year round. Remove skin and thorns. Slice and fry till brown. Slice and fry till brown.
Properties
Bitter tasting; cold, poisonous. Stem (after removal of juice) anti-swelling, anti-inflammatory, antidiarrheal.
主治用法Indications
- 急性胃肠炎Acute gastroenteritis
- 疟疾Malaria.
每用1至2前,同大米炒焦,水煎服。Use 3-6gm. Fry with rice till brown, boil in water. External use in boils, pyodermas, and ringworm infection, by applying juice from fresh herb.
Prescriptions
Boils and pyodermas: Euphorbia antiquorum stem, warm over low fire and apply to lesion.
Remarks:
This herb is toxic and contraindicated in pregnancy. Should be fried with rice before taking in orally. Skin contact with the sap may cause irritation and blister formation. Contact with eye causes blindness. When taken internally, small amount causes severe diarrhea; large amount irritates oral mucosa, causes vomiting, headache, and coma. Antidote consists of egg white, milk, and resuscitative measures. |
