Habitat
A shrub or tree 3-8m high. Flowers in summer. In thickets and hillside. Also cultivated.
Preparation
Use root and leaves. Collect all year round.
Properties
Acrid and bitter tasting; mildly warm. Anesthetic, sedative, anti-inflammatory, anti-swelling, anti-rheumatic, circulation promoting.

- 铁打肿痛,风湿骨痛Traumatic injury, rheumatic pains
- 胃痛,牙痛Ulcer pain, toothache
- 流行性乙型脑炎Epidemic encephalitis B
- 蛇虫咬伤,湿疹Insect and snake bites
- 局部麻醉Local anesthesia
每用根、叶3-5钱,水煎服; 外用鲜叶适量捣敷。Use 9-15gm. prepare as decoction. Externally, macerate fresh herb for topical application
Prescriptions
- Traumatic injury: Mash together equal quantities of fresh Murraya paniculata, Hypericum japonicum, Litsea glutinosa leaves, Gardenia jasminoides leaves, stir-roast with wine and apply to affected parts.
- Rheumatic bone pain: Take 15gm, each of Murraya paniculata, Lantana camara roots, Bauhinia championi roots and either make a soup with pork bones in double boiler or immerse in wine to be taken orally.
