Habitat
A perennial herb 20-80cm. high. Flowers in summer and autumn. Mostly cultivated in gardens and along village borders. Also appears in the wild.
Preparation
Use roots. Collect all year round, wash and dry under sun.
Properties
Sweet, Neutral tasting; cool. Anti-inflammatory, diuretic; promotes circulation and dispels stagnant blood.

- 扁桃体炎Tonsillitis
- 泌尿体感染，前列腺炎Genito-urinary tract infection, prostatitis
- 糖尿病，乳糜尿Diabetes mellitus, chyluria
- 白带，子宫颈糜烂Leucorrhea, cervical erosion
- 急性关节炎Acute arthritis
外用治乳腺炎、铁打损伤。花治咯血。每用根5钱至1两，水煎服。外用鲜品捣敷或煎水洗患处。孕妇忌服。External use in acute mastitis, boils and pyodermas, traumatic injury, eczema. Flowers useful in hemoptysis. Use roots 15-30gm. Prepare as decoction. Macerate fresh herb for topical use, or boil in water for washing. Contraindicated in pregnancy.
Prescriptions
- Tonsillitis: Extract juice from fresh roots, and apply to affected part.
- Hemoptysis: White flowers 120gm. Extract juice, and take with honey.
